· The combination of bending stress and tensile stress at the knuckle radius in torispherical heads results in higher stress concentrations in this area compared to other parts. Compared with ellipsoidal heads, the stress distribution is less uniform, but torispherical heads are easier to manufacture. Therefore, they are not the ideal option for engineering applications. However, when the forming of ellipsoidal heads is difficult, hemispherical heads can be used as an alternative.
· Because torispherical heads require less processing than standard elliptical heads, the forming quality is excellent when producing large-diameter, thin-walled torispherical heads, and they also have an attractive appearance.
· Due to the flatter curvature of the torispherical head compared with the 2:1 elliptical shape, it is easier to install fixed plates and supports on the torispherical head.
