How Long Does It Take to Manufacture and Ship Dished Heads from China?
The total time is manufacturing plus inspection and documentation plus shipping. Standard carbon steel heads in common sizes are the fastest; special materials, very large diameters, heat treatment, and third-party inspection all add time. Dingjin publishes reference lead times of 7 to 15 days depending on quantity, and the final schedule is confirmed with the quotation. The fastest way to a short lead time is a complete specification, because every question the factory has to ask back adds a day.
Where the time goes
Five stages make up the total:
Quotation and drawing confirmation. We answer RFQs within 24 hours. Once the order is confirmed, the drawing and the material grade are frozen, and any change after this point moves the schedule.
Material. Heads made from plate we have in stock start immediately. Special grades, thick plate, or imported material have to be ordered from the mill, which adds days to weeks.
Forming. The process matters: hot forming and cold forming each have setup time, and spinning is slower per piece for very large diameters.
Welding, heat treatment, and inspection. Heads that need post-forming heat treatment, NDT, or third-party inspection spend extra days here. These steps are scheduled, not optional.
Packaging and shipping. Heads ship in wooden crates or steel frames. Sea freight, air freight, and courier have very different times and costs, and the port schedule decides the sailing date.

Shipping options
Most heads go by sea freight because of the weight and size. Packaging is wooden crates or steel frames to protect the flange and the surface. Air freight and courier work for small, light, or urgent shipments, at a higher cost. The shipping time depends on the route and the port, so ask for the sailing schedule when you get the quotation, not after the order is packed.
How to get the shortest lead time
Send the complete specification: shape, OD, thickness, material, standard, quantity.
Ask which materials are in stock before you commit.
State heat treatment and inspection requirements in the RFQ.
Freeze the drawing before production starts.
Choose the shipping method at the quotation stage, not after.
Our track record at Dalian Dingjin
We have made pressure vessel heads for more than 24 years, from two production bases and one R&D center in Dalian, under a third-class pressure vessel manufacturing license, fabricating to ASME and other cited codes. Every batch of plate is checked for chemical composition, mechanical properties, and surface quality before production, and since we started exporting in 2014, we have shipped more than 1,000 tons of dish heads a year on average. In April 2025 we delivered ASME carbon steel heads to a long-term customer in Thailand we have supplied for over eight years, with on-time delivery and full QA/QC checks.
FAQ
Q: How long does it take to produce a dished head?
A: For standard carbon steel heads, the reference lead time we publish is 7 to 15 days depending on quantity. Special materials, large diameters, heat treatment, and third-party inspection add time. The final schedule is fixed at quotation.
Q: What is your lead time for standard carbon steel heads?
A: Our published reference is 7 days for 1-100 pieces, 10 days for 101-1,000, and 15 days for 1,001-10,000. Confirm the schedule with your quotation, since the size and inspection requirements can move it.
Q: Can you rush an order?
A: In many cases, yes, if the material is in stock and the capacity is available. Tell us the required date at the RFQ stage so we can plan around it instead of adding rush time later.
Q: How long does sea freight take from China to my port?
A: It depends on the route, the port, and the sailing schedule. Ask for the sailing dates when you get the quotation, and compare sea freight with air or courier for urgent items.
Q: What should I provide to get the fastest quotation?
A: The complete specification: shape, outside diameter, thickness, material grade, standard, and quantity. Complete RFQs are answered within 24 hours, and there are no follow-up questions that cost you a day.
