The technical requirements for the head mainly include the following aspects:
Shape and Size: The shape and size of the head must be precise to meet the requirements of the enclosed pipeline or container. For example, for cylindrical containers, the head should be circular, and the diameter and thickness must be precise to ensure a tight and leak free connection with the container body.
Material selection: The material selection for the head should be based on the intended application scenario and the pressure, temperature, and other factors it will withstand. In high-pressure, high-temperature, or corrosive environments, high-performance materials such as stainless steel and alloy steel should be selected.
Manufacturing process: The manufacturing process of the head must ensure quality, including appropriate heat treatment methods and welding processes. The welding joint should be free of defects such as cracks, pores, etc. to ensure its strength and sealing.
Strength and stiffness: The head must be able to withstand the required pressure without deformation or rupture. During the design and manufacturing process, strength calculations and testing should be conducted to ensure that it meets the requirements.
Safety: The design, manufacturing, and installation of the head must comply with relevant safety standards. In situations where high pressure or toxic substances may be generated, the head should have safety measures such as explosion prevention and leakage prevention.
Testing and acceptance: After the head is manufactured, it needs to undergo strict testing and acceptance. This includes visual inspection, pressure testing, material inspection, etc. Only heads that have been tested and meet relevant standards can be accepted and used.
Heat treatment: For cold formed heads, heat treatment is required when the deformation rate exceeds a certain proportion. For example, austenitic stainless steel heads require heat treatment under specific conditions to restore their performance.
Non destructive testing: During the manufacturing process of the head, non-destructive testing such as X-ray testing, ultrasonic testing, etc. is required to discover possible defects such as cracks and pores inside, ensuring internal quality.
Surface quality: Check the surface of the head to ensure that there are no defects such as cracks, bubbles, scratches, etc. The surface should be smooth and even. The minimum thickness measured at the weld seam shall not be less than the minimum guaranteed thickness of the head, and the surface of the weld seam shall not be lower than the surface of the base metal by a certain distance.
Other inspection items include groove angle and dimensional tolerance, outer circumference and inner diameter tolerance, etc. The strict implementation of these inspection items is an important measure to ensure that the quality of the head meets safety requirements and ensure the safe operation of the equipment.
